COOKIE NOTICE Last updated: 2 November 2026 This notice explains the cookies and similar storage used on Going Out Out. It should be read with the privacy notice. The rule that applies in the United Kingdom is the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, together with the UK GDPR where a cookie identifies someone. A cookie is a small file a site stores on your device. We also describe similar techniques, such as a session record on our server, where they do the same job. 1. WHAT WE SET We only set cookies that are needed to run the site, keep it secure, and remember choices you have just made. These are strictly necessary. The law does not require us to ask permission before setting them. We do not use them to advertise to you, and we do not let advertising networks set cookies through this site. Session cookie Name: a cookie whose name ends in "-session". The exact name is set from the site configuration. Purpose: keeps your visit together. It holds the sign-in, the town you picked, and the token that stops another site submitting a form as you. Duration: the session ends after about 2 hours without activity. It can end sooner if you sign out. Provider: Going Out Out. Security cookie Name: XSRF-TOKEN Purpose: helps us detect forged form submissions. Duration: the same visit, alongside the session. Provider: Going Out Out. Remember-me cookie Name: a cookie beginning "remember_". Purpose: only if you tick "remember me" when you sign in. It keeps that device signed in. Duration: until you sign out. If you do not tick the box, we do not set it. Provider: Going Out Out. We do not use a separate cookie for the town. The town you choose is stored in the session. 2. WHAT WE DO NOT SET We do not set: - Advertising cookies. - Social media cookies. Share buttons are ordinary links. Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and X are contacted only if you click, and then you are on their site. - A third-party analytics cookie such as a Google Analytics cookie. - A cookie that follows you across other websites. There is no cookie banner, because there is no optional cookie to accept or refuse. If that changes, we will ask before we set anything that is not strictly necessary, and we will update this notice first. 3. COUNTS OF LISTING ACTIVITY When you open an event, ask for directions, share, or follow a booking link, we add to a daily total for that listing. Venues can see the totals for their own listing. To stop the same visit being counted twice on the same day, we store a one-way hash of the session, the listing and the action for about 30 days. That hash is not a cookie, it is not used to identify you for marketing, and it is not shared as a list of people. This is covered in the privacy notice. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding which listings are used, balanced against the limited data involved. 4. REQUESTS YOUR BROWSER MAKES TO OTHER SERVICES These are not cookies we set. They still send your IP address from your browser to the other service, so you should know about them. Maps If a map is shown, your browser requests map images from OpenStreetMap, or from the tile server named in the site configuration. That server sees your IP address and the tile requested. OpenStreetMap's own privacy information is at wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy. We use the map to show where venues are. We do not send your account name with the tile request. Fonts Pages may load a typeface from fonts.bunny.net. Your browser sends your IP address to that service so the font file can be delivered. We use it so the wordmark can display. Bunny's own privacy information is on bunny.net. Booking and social sites A booking button leaves this site for an address the venue supplied. A share button leaves for Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram or X. From that point their cookies and their privacy notice apply, not this one. 5. HOW TO CONTROL COOKIES You can block or delete cookies in your browser. If you block the session cookie, sign-in and the town selection will not work properly. The public event lists can still be opened. Useful guidance: - Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk - Your browser's help pages for "cookies" or "site data" On a shared device, sign out when you finish, especially if you ticked remember me. 6. CHANGES If we introduce any cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will update this page and ask you before we set it. Last updated: 2 November 2026
